Your playing along and the ensemble feels like it's tripping over itself in it's rush to go faster, the music doesn't feel settled the rhythms are more or less

correct but it feels wrong.  Well this is whats wrong, it's easy to fix and it will make your rhythm make more sense, your technique more even and solid and  fixed it will make for better and more enlightened music making with a better sense of phrase structure.....

You will often hear me say this at lessons. Another way to think of this is

Most music and all tonal music follows the pattern embodied by the harmonic progression 1-5-1.

That is to say it moves from a point of repose to tension and then back again.

The performer must highlight or make evident these patterns and thusly communicate the architecture of the piece to the listener.
