We have added MDR
(magnetic dent removal tools) to our repertoire.
We can now do some fast dent removal that previously would have involved taking the sax apart.
this is great for tenor and
Bari saxes in particular. I am very excited and pleased with the new dent tools. after practicing with them and getting used to the magnets. A part of the shop is set aside for their use to keep them away from other metal objects.
The inside of the sax is cleaned so dirt doesn't transfer itself to the outside as a series of small bumps, then the steel ball is rolled into the sax, I catch the ball carefully at the bow part with the magnet and move the ball up and down inside the sax to iron out the dent. This is great for Bari saxes in particular.
As per usual with dent work I still find that 90% of the dent is removed relatively quickly and the last 10% takes longer.
This method doesn't work for every dent you still have to use traditional methods but for certain dents they are great.
